Os reenvío un correo que me ha llegado hace unos dias "invitándome" a dar una ponencia en un Congreso Internacional de Estrellas Dobles en Hawai. Como me pedían en el correo, distribuyo su mensaje:

Dear Francisco,



I would be grateful if you would consider giving an invited talk at the Maui International Double Star Conference. Also, I would appreciate it if you would be willing to joint Kent Clark and others on the conference's Scientific Organizing Committee (SOC). In particular it would be helpful if you could suggest folks from Spain, both amateur and professional, that we should invite to speak at the conference.

The conference announcement is pasted in below. I would be grateful if you would circulate it among folks in Spain that might be interested.

I've read many of your papers in the JDSO. Fine work!

The Maui International Double Star Conference will cover all aspects of visual double star astrometry. Invited talks and contributed posters are welcome on double star history, instrumentation, observations, orbital analysis, catalogs, organizations, journals, and student research. All observational techniques from simple astrometric eyepieces and CCD astrometry, to lucky imaging and speckle, amplitude, and intensity interferometry will be covered. Past (Hipparcos) and future (Gaia) space astrometry missions will also be described. There will be a special session and workshop on double star research by high school and undergraduate students. The conference’s Educational Organizing Committee (EOC) will highlight the role of double star research in student education. The conference will conclude with a panel discussion on the current status and future prospects for double star astrometry. Papers and poster summaries will be published in a book co-edited by the conference co-chairs and published by the Collins Foundation Press. ¿Qué pena que Hawai esté tan lejos verdad?

Además Russ parece una persona encantadora, es muy amable y con un nivel de entusiasmo increible. Es uno de los padres de los "telescopios robóticos", y durante muchos años ha sido presidente de la sociedad astronómica americana del pacífico.

El problema es que la "invitación" que hacen son de esas en las que uno tiene que costearse el viaje. Y... la verdad es que la economía de uno dista mucho de poder permitirse un viaje de estos. Ya me pasó el tiempo con un Congreso en California. En fin.. de momento a soñar con estos eventos y sitios paradisiacos.
